Review of "Twists" From Northern Rocks Magazine

This is the review of our album from Northern Rocks. My favourite part is at the end: "...this album is not for everyone. Who should listen to it, I don't know..."

At any rate, I thought it was a pretty awesome review but that part made me laugh. I was expecting him to recommend it to a certain type of listener, but he had no idea who might like it! At least he liked it. You'd like it too, I'm sure.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meadowlark Lemon is not what you would expect to see develop in the midst of the Sudbury youth music scene but rather at a quiet nightclub with clean floors. Jonathan Danyliw’s vocals scream of REM as his voice cuts through the soft, sweet sounds of acoustic guitar and drums on the opening track “Sand”. Clayton Drake pounds low keys on the piano and sends chills up your spine as the beautiful sound of “Hey You” introduces itself to your senses. Almost exactly half way through the album Meadowlark Lemon flips everything upside down and comes back with a more cheerful sound added with more experimentation.

Twists could be great background music when you're reading a book or having a nice fancy dinner with important guests, but don’t let that make you think that the album is not great because it is masterfully assembled and perfect in most instances. These are the kind of songs you suspect of being written by professional song writers when really it comes from the mind of two guys living with the Superstack (look it up). Although Twists is only 5 songs long it comes in at almost 35 minutes which makes it worth every penny. I won’t lie to you and tell you that everyone must have this but instead say that this album is not for everyone. Who should listen to it, I don’t know but you will be surprised and that is the truth. If nothing else you will enjoy trying to solve the maze on the album cover.
