I'm a beat

I was going to title this blog post "I'm Beat", but decided that "I'm a beat" was a good song lyric and now I'm going to try and write a song around it.

I just started working at Canadian Blood Services call centre and man do I miss being unemployed. Sure, getting money is nice, but I miss the complete lack of responsibility and the sleeping in.

Having said that, as far as call centres go, this place is the cream of the crop. The pay is good, the people are friendly, and it's a pretty low stress work environment.

I went to see Zombieland with Matt Beech the other day and liked it. I'm so bad with anything that is even remotely scary. I'm just super jumpy.

Anyway, Meadowlark Five is playing it's first gig in a while this Friday at Adanac, and on Saturday in North Bay. Here's the poster:



Minto is a super fun band. Check out this video for their song, Broken Down Trainbridge Blues (Lawyers):



It's pretty awesome.

As always, there will be pizza and pop served, and I figured out how to hook my iPod up to the PA so there will be music between the bands.

In addition, as you can see from the poster, Cali Closet in the Southridge Mall is sponsoring this show so there will be prizes courtesy of them and 10% discount cards given away at the door.

The show starts at 6PM and will also feature the local heavy rock and roll band Killing Queens and youngsters Shop Naked.

Leaving for tour tomorrow

I cleaned out my van today in preparation for the Meadowlark Five tour which begins in the Sault tomorrow (April 28th) at Arcadia House. It never fails to amaze me how many water bottles and pop cans can accumulate underneath the seats in my van within the span of a couple of months.

I also removed the piece of plywood which separates the front seats from the back seats. I think this makes the rear seating area less dungeon-esque. Fans of travelling dungeons will no doubt be disappointed.

I'm super excited to play tomorrow. We're playing with this band from the Sault called Waterslide (http://www.myspace.com/waterslid3) and Hello Marx (www.myspace.com/hellomarx). Hello Marx has replaced Felix with Simon Jutras on guitar, and I am interested to hear their new sound.

We also have brand new Meadowlark Five T-shirts, which look like this:



They only come in small and medium so to all you fatties out there, stay tuned for the upcoming flavours of Meadowlark Five ice cream.

Anyway, the show starts at 8 PM tomorrow.

They got some of the info wrong (they left out the fact that Life Size Dream is playing and they put that the cost of admission is $7 when in fact it is $5), but whatevs; still a good interview!

This Saturday

Last Saturday at Adanac was totally awesome! Malentendu, Ancestors, Lunchmeat and Bot all rocked Adanac with furious abandon. We had a great turnout, and I bonked my head off some other kid in the mosh pit. I was wearing my sunglasses at the time and I thought that the arm had broken in half and that it was sticking out through my ear, but as it turned out it was just the plastic tab from my earplugs. Why would I think that?

The after-show at the Millards' garage went really well too. Sadly, I missed Bunnies in Berlin's set because Carter and I went for coffee. By the way, check out their myspace; they finally have some songs recorded! (Just click on their name: it is hyper-linked with the HTML!)

However, I am glad that Carter got a coffee because he delivered the pumpinest drum performance I've ever seen him give!

I took Ancestors for Big Drippers at Sub City afterwards (a sandwich they won't soon forget, I'm sure), and I attempted and failed to eat an entire large vegetarian pizza. Annabelle showed up randomly, ate a slice, and then subsequently vanished into the night only to apparently fall over a fence into waist-deep snow while trying to take a shortcut home. (I offered her a ride but she wouldn't take it)

This Saturday, my seven-piece rock band Meadowlark Five and my band the Birthday Cakes will be playing a show at Adanac with the awesome band Oh No Forest Fires from Toronto. Also performing will be Life Size Dream and Lightmares.

Also, the Birthday Cakes were ranked at number 7 this past week on the CFOU campus radio charts for Trois Rivieres. We were also ranked number 8 on the CFBX campus radio chart for Kamloops, BC! So, good for us.
